Green Shield 2010

Congratulations!

Attached is a photo of the ACT team with the Green Shield. Thank you to all our players who gave their best in every match you played. Our team did extremely well, though we did have a lot of nerves going into the last round yesterday against Western. Whoever won that round would win overall and looking at the numbers on Saturday night we thought we may have been just a bit too far behind Western to do it.

With a 3-1 win by our under 13 boys and a 3-0 win by our under 11 girls this clinched the shield for us.

With 4 age groups and 3 trophies in each age group – the girls shield, the boys shield and an overall shield. ACT did extremely well. As well as winning Green Shield we won the under 11 girls, the overall under 11s, the under 15 boys, the overall under 15s, the under 17 girl and the overall under 17s. A big well done goes to Colin Lees, the game he won on Sunday morning meant we won the overall 17’s Shield by 1 game – if it had gone to points we would not have won that shield. All shields won by ACT will go on display at Woden.

Laura McCredie & Zac Morris were our team captains for 2010 and accepted the shield on behalf of the team and then after thanking everyone as the captains of the winning region they then cut the cake celebrating the 40th anniversary of Green Shield. ACT has participated in Green Shield since it’s conception so to not only host this year’s event but to win has been fantastic. This year Lorraine Rae (Jacob & Lachlan Watt’s mum), Evan Henman, Josh Southwell-Nobbs, Jeremy Salter and Elliot Geddes as well as Ryan Henman (ACT Junior Coach) were part of our group of coaches who had all played for ACT in previous Green Shields themselves.

I would like to repeat the very big thankyou that we gave to Rosie Gooch for running the canteen for the weekend. It is a very big task to take on and she did a fantastic job. Thank you to Troy Davey for organizing the BBQ. As usual a very big thank you also goes to Melissa Prentice for running the control desk and keeping track of all the results and all the other work she does behind the scenes. Thank you to all the parents who spared some time and helped Rosie and Troy with the canteen and the BBQ. With the canteen we successfully raised $641.50 which will go towards Green Shield in 2011. Well done!

Thank you to our team of coaches (Ryan Henman, Lorraine Rae, Sam Paterson, Russell Weatherburn, Josh Southwell – Nobbs, Evan Henman, Elliot Geddes & Jeremy Salter) who gave up their weekend to help our team to victory.

Daniel Jones and the Woden staff did a great job of keeping the centre clean coming in well before play was due to start on Saturday and Sunday mornings to make sure everything was clean and ready for the days play. Daniel & Josh spent Friday morning making sure that the courts were clean and all lighting was working.

Without the efforts of all those that helped the weekend would not have been as big a success as it was. We were thanked by all visiting regions for our efforts so we all should feel very proud of ourselves.

Thank you!

Green Shield will be hosted by Central Coast/Hunter 2011 and will be held in the Newcastle area. Please make sure you mark the 17th, 18th & 19th June in your diaries.

Cheers,

Helen
